Baptism of Grace Imogen and Oliver David Mitchell
May 25 - 2008

Grace Imogen

When the Rev. Shirley Ludlow opened the service at Park Grove today she described the coming service as a 'Jamboree' which, of course, is a celebration or a party. Not only we we about to welcome into the fellowship of the church twin babies but we were also to celebrate the 'Coral' wedding, of Stan and Christine Brock who, 35 years ago, were married at Park Grove.
The theme of the service was 'Hands'. Margaret Northing told the moving story of Abert Dürer, who gave up his own education to pay for that of his brother, Albrecht, who in turn had expected to repay the kindness. Albert's hands were incapable of holding a cup with which to toast his brother's success as they were malformed through his years in the mine. Albrecht Dürer went on to paint, perhaps, his most famous picture, which he named 'Hands'.
After baptising the twins, Rev. Shirley, assisted by Margaret, showed Imogen Grace and Oliver David around the church, to everyone's delight, including the twins!

At the end of the service the children, who had all been drawing around their hands were asked, to bring them out for all to see. Rev Shirley prayed for the good use of all our hands.

The service lived up to Shirley's expectations of a Jamboree and the celebrations would not end on leaving church.
The flowers, this week, were arranged by Anne Jackson.
